Beaches Guide

Part 5 of 9

Phuket’s west coast is lined with a string of beaches that, despite sitting on the same island, each have a distinct character — which makes them a useful reference point when deciding where to buy.

The West Coast, Beach by Beach

  • Patong — the busiest and most developed beach, backed by the island’s main nightlife and shopping district.
  • Karon and Kata — broad, more relaxed stretches of sand just south of Patong, popular with families and long-term residents who still want easy access to restaurants and shops.
  • Kamala — quieter and more residential, sitting between Patong and the Laguna area.
  • Bang Tao and Surin — home to the Laguna resort complex and some of the island’s most polished beach clubs, favoured for upmarket villa living.
  • Nai Harn — a picturesque bay in the island’s south-west, often ranked among Phuket’s most beautiful beaches, backed by a lagoon and hillside viewpoints.
  • Freedom Beach — a smaller, harder-to-reach cove near Patong, best known for calmer water and a more secluded feel.
  • Nai Yang and Mai Khao — long, quiet beaches in the north, closer to the airport and shaded by casuarina trees.

Choosing a Beach to Live Near

The right beach depends entirely on the life you want. Buyers drawn to an active, sociable scene tend to look at Patong or Kata; those wanting a quieter, more residential feel often gravitate toward Kamala, Nai Harn or the northern beaches; and families frequently favour the calmer waters and gentler slopes of Karon or Bang Tao. Distance to the beach itself is only part of the equation — traffic patterns, nearby schools, and the general pace of the neighbourhood all shape day-to-day life more than the map suggests.

If you would like a clearer sense of which stretch of coastline matches your own priorities, the Anan Property Group team is glad to walk you through the options.
