Phuket is the yachting hub of the Andaman, and the marina addresses sit almost entirely on the east coast — the sheltered side, facing Phang Nga Bay. If you own a boat, or intend to, this is a different island from the west-coast beach strip.

The marinas, and where they are

Royal Phuket Marina and Boat Lagoon sit together at Koh Kaew, just north of Phuket Town, with berthing, services and residential development built around them. Ao Po Grand Marina is further north at Pa Khlok, deeper into the bay and closer to the islands most people actually sail to. Yacht Haven sits at the northern tip. Between them they cover most of what a boat owner needs without leaving the island.

Why the east coast

Phang Nga Bay is protected water. Where the Andaman side takes monsoon swell from roughly May to October, the bay stays flat, which is why every marina is on this side and why the sailing season here is effectively year-round. The trade-off is the beaches: the east coast has mangrove and mudflat rather than white sand, so this is a choice about water access, not about swimming off your garden.

What to ask

Berthing is separate from the property in most cases — confirm whether a berth is included, leased, or simply available nearby, and at what annual cost. If a berth is included, check whether it transfers with the sale and what size vessel it takes.

Then ask the ordinary marina-estate questions: what the service charge covers, who maintains the internal roads and seawalls, and how the estate handles the wet season.
