Cape Yamu

The east coast was fishing and rubber country and stayed that way long after the west coast was developed, largely because it has mudflats and mangroves rather than swimming beaches. That neglect preserved it.

The arrival of a luxury resort and a small number of high-end estates in the 2000s established the cape as a distinct address, and it has stayed deliberately low-density since.

This is a bay, not a beach coast. The shoreline is rock and mangrove with significant tidal flats, so swimming from the shore is not the point. Boats are: the water is calm year-round and the islands of Phang Nga Bay start within a short cruise.

Limited and mostly within the resorts and estates, plus excellent, cheap local seafood in the villages towards Pa Khlok. For anything else you are driving to Phuket Town or the west coast, which is the honest trade-off for the privacy.

Local shops handle basics; the nearest full supermarkets are towards Phuket Town or Si Sunthon, twenty to thirty minutes away. Most households here shop weekly rather than daily.

International schools and the major private hospitals are twenty-five to thirty-five minutes away, mostly towards Phuket Town and Koh Kaew. A car is essential and journeys are longer here than anywhere else in this guide.
