Thai Elite Visa Guide

Now marketed as Thailand Privilege, this is a membership programme rather than a conventional visa. You pay a fee and receive long-stay permission without the financial tests, age limits or annual re-qualification that other routes involve.

How it differs

Conventional visas ask you to prove something — age, income, employment, a course booking. The Privilege programme asks you to pay a membership fee, and the stay follows from membership. That is the whole proposition, and it is why it appeals to buyers who would rather not tie up a large deposit in a Thai bank account or who do not meet the age threshold for retirement.

The tiers

Membership is sold in tiers running from around five years to twenty, at fees rising accordingly. Higher tiers add points-based privileges such as airport services, transfers and wellness benefits, and some tiers allow family members to be added for an additional fee. The programme was restructured and renamed in 2023, so older descriptions of the tiers are out of date.

Points to weigh

The fee is substantial and largely non-refundable, so it is worth comparing against the total cost of the alternative you would otherwise use. Membership grants residence permission, not work rights or permanent residency, and it does not shorten any path to citizenship. Terms have been revised more than once.

What it means if you are buying

This is the route most often chosen by buyers at the upper end of the market, precisely because it removes the annual administrative cycle from owning a holiday or second home. As with every other visa, it changes nothing about what you may own.
