Cape Panwa is the peninsula at Phuket’s south-eastern corner, and it looks out over sheltered water towards Chalong Bay and the islands beyond. Wichit is the belt of suburb behind it, running back towards Phuket Town. Together they form one of the island’s most practical residential areas: sea views and marinas on one side, hospitals, schools and shopping ten minutes away on the other.
The water here is calm and usable year-round, which is why boat owners cluster on this coast. It is also considerably cheaper than the equivalent view on the west.

The cape extends south-east from Phuket Town, with Wichit filling the ground between. Phuket Town and the main shopping centres are around ten minutes away, Chalong fifteen, and the west coast beaches thirty to forty minutes across the island.
The airport is a long run at roughly forty-five minutes.

Cape Panwa & Wichit in detail
A short history
Panwa was a fishing and plantation cape with a long-standing marine research presence — the aquarium at its tip has been there for decades. Wichit grew as Phuket Town expanded outwards.
Resort and residential development on the cape has been steady but restrained, helped by the fact that it never had a tourist beach to attract mass building.
The water and the coastline
Sheltered bay water rather than surf beaches, with small strips of sand around the cape. Calm year-round, which makes it a natural base for boats. Chalong and Ao Po marinas are both accessible.
Eating and drinking
Excellent seafood around the cape, and the whole range of Phuket Town’s dining ten minutes away — which for many residents is the real draw.
Shopping and everyday errands
The island’s largest shopping centres are around ten minutes away, with supermarkets, markets and services throughout Wichit. Very well served.
Schools, healthcare and getting around
Several international schools sit within ten to twenty minutes, and the major private hospitals in Phuket Town are around ten — among the shortest hospital runs on the island. A car is expected.

Is there a beach?
Small strips rather than a resort beach. This is a bay coast — people here use pools and boats, and drive west for sand.
