Luxury Pool Villas in Phuket
A private pool is close to standard in a Phuket villa rather than a luxury in itself. What separates one from another is size, orientation, how private it feels, and what it costs to keep looking the way it did in the photographs.
What a pool actually costs to keep
Routine service — chemicals, skimming, filter cleaning — is inexpensive here by European or Australian standards, and most owners have it done weekly. The costs that catch people out are the occasional ones: pump and filter replacement, salt cell renewal on saltwater systems, and resurfacing, which comes round every several years and is not a small job. Ask when each was last done rather than whether the pool works.
Orientation and privacy
A pool that faces west gets the afternoon sun and the sunset, which most buyers want and which also means the terrace is unusable for part of the day without shade. Check what overlooks it: on tightly packed developments the neighbouring second floor often has a clear view down into the water, and no amount of planting fixes that quickly.
Saltwater or chlorine
Saltwater systems are gentler on skin and eyes and are common in newer builds. They are not maintenance-free — the cell is a consumable and the salt is corrosive to nearby metalwork and stone if the surround was not specified for it.
