A proper beach village with a temple, a school and a bay that families come back to — the quiet middle ground of the west coast.

18 places mapped in this area
Families and long-stay residents who want a village with a beach, not a resort with a village attached.
Kamala: a wide, gently shelving bay with a quiet northern end.
About 35 minutes.
Relaxed and residential. A real community that happens to sit on a beach.
Phuket runs a dry season from November to April and a green, wetter monsoon from May to October. It is warm all year - rain arrives in short heavy bursts rather than grey days.
Kamala is one of the few places on the west coast that still reads as a village. There is a temple, a school, a morning market and a football pitch, and the beach in front of it is wide, gently shelving and calm enough for children at the northern end. It sits between Patong and Surin without behaving like either.
That balance is why families settle here. There is enough infrastructure to live comfortably, enough beach to justify the address, and enough distance from the party economy that day-to-day life feels ordinary in the best sense.
Kamala occupies its own bay on the west coast, with Surin ten minutes north over the headland and Patong fifteen minutes south. The Millionaire’s Mile headland rises at its northern end.
The airport is around thirty-five minutes north and Phuket Town a similar run east over the hills.
Everything we would actually point a client towards — restaurants, beach clubs, schools, clinics, markets and services — mapped and filterable.

Kamala was a Muslim fishing village and remains a mixed community, which gives it a different character from the resort settlements around it. The 2004 tsunami hit this bay hard, and the recovery — including the rebuilding of the school and much of the seafront — shaped the village that stands today.
Development since has been steady rather than explosive, with resorts at the headlands and residential streets behind the beach.
A wide bay with soft sand, calmer and shallower at the northern end where families gather. The southern end has the beach clubs and more open water. Monsoon surf from May to October brings currents and red flags.
A good spread: beachfront restaurants and clubs at the southern end, simple Thai kitchens through the village, and a growing number of cafes. Prices are noticeably below Surin.
A supermarket, pharmacies, banks and a morning market cover daily life without leaving the village. For a larger shop, Patong or Cherngtalay are fifteen to twenty minutes.
There are international school options in and around Kamala and Patong, with the larger campuses towards Phuket Town and Thalang. A clinic serves the village; hospitals are thirty-five minutes. Much of the village is walkable, though a car is expected.
Temple, school, market and football pitch — Kamala has the infrastructure of a community, not just a resort.
Shallower, calmer water and shade make that stretch the local choice with young children.
The headland at the northern end carries some of the most valuable villas in the country.
Very. A calm northern beach, a village with real services, schools nearby and a community feel that most of the west coast has lost.
Bigger, more residential and cheaper. Surin is smaller and smarter with better restaurants; Kamala has more of the practical fabric of daily life.
Both routes are available — condominium units in foreign freehold where the building has capacity, and villas held on registered long leases with ownership of the building.
Yes, like the whole west coast. From May to October the surf builds and currents can be dangerous. The village stays open but quieter.
Far less than Patong. The southern beach clubs generate some evening activity; the village behind is quiet.
The village is walkable, but for the airport, schools and the rest of the island, yes.
